The biggest gamechanger for me in the last couple years, both in terms of my life and in terms of my business, has been the people that I surround myself with. When we think about the basis for most friendships, if you're anything like me, those relationships were probably formed at school or at work. Because those are the things that we have in common, it is easy for the habit to form of talking about those things, and more often than not that means talking negatively or complaining. I'm definitely guilty of this! Whether that was going out after work with my fellow...
Sometimes, you know it’s time for a change…and yet, you hang on too long to what’s familiar out of fear of the unknown, fear of judgment, and a whole host of other reasons. When it was time for me to make a significant pivot in my business, it took me longer than I would have liked to realize it and actually make the change. Here, I’m sharing the five reasons I held on too long, in hopes that if you see yourself here, you’ll be inspired to take action sooner than I was.
The first barrier to making the changes I needed to make in my business was none other than my ego. My previous business looked great and professional from the outside, and it definitely felt good to look like I had my act together. I'd written books, organized virtual retreats, and felt that I was starting to get the recognition that I'd wanted in my field. The idea of "throwing that all away" to start over again felt overwhelming, and not in a good way. How would it even feel...
If you’re like me a short time ago, thinking about making a change in your business or pivoting to another field, you’re probably also already trying to talk yourself out of it. Thinking about all of the factors that will need to be changed if/when you make this change is daunting – what about all of the old blog posts that link to each other, the email sequences, the freebies, the pins and posts and all of the things?! If that sounds familiar and gets your pulse racing, this is for you. Let’s reframe and shift the perspective to focus on what matters even more than SEO.
If you've been in business for awhile, you've probably built a nice little web of your own -- I don't mean a network, but rather a web of your own making. Links from one blog to another, a social media post that directs readers to your blog, countless pins scattered all over the internet. It feels daunting and intimidating to even...
2020 was the year of the pivot, in so many ways. From jobs going remote to school going virtual, we improvised and adapted with the best of them. I went into this season of transition confident that my business was one of the few things that would remain constant – I was already working remotely, so there was no need to expect anything to change. Well, just at the end of this bizarre year, in November actually, I had a wakeup call that it was time for basically everything about my business to change. I’m going to share here why I opted to do that publicly rather than just quietly making the changes behind the scenes.
If you're new around here or if you've been around for awhile and suddenly don't recognize *anything*...here's a little refresher about what Borderless Stories used to be. When we began, we were solely focused on providing coaching and support for people in intercultural relationships. Things were going well with that, too. In early...
